Reportage: Dr. Jonathan Choi, Group Chairman of Sun Wah receives honorary degree at CDN ConGen OR

Canadian Consul General Ian Burchett graciously hosted a special convocation ceremony on the morning of October 14th at his Official Residence, where Dr. Jonathan Choi Koon-shum (蔡冠深), Group Chairman of Sun Wah, received an honorary degree from the University of Alberta.

A delegation from the university flew all the way to Hong Kong to confer the honorary doctorate of the laws on Dr Choi, including the Chancellor of the University of Alberta Mr Ralph B. Young, Provost and Vice President (Academic) Dr Steven K. Dew, Board Chair Emeritus of the University Mr Douglas Goss, and Director of the University’s Chinese Institute, Professor Gordon Houden.

Dr Jonathan Choi is the Chairman of the Hong Kong based Sunwah Group, the Toronto-listed Sunwah International Limited, the Hong Kong-listed Sunwah Kingsway Capital Group and the Vietnam based VinaCapital Group. The businessman is active in political affairs and is a member of the National Committee of CPPCC of the PRC, a representative of Hong Kong to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council; Council Member of the Economic Development Committee, and is also a Permanent Honorary President of the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce.

Michael Wong

Michael Wong has a background in journalism in Canada and Hong Kong, including stints in print and radio media. He has worked with Metro Radio and CKMS Radio. He also has experience in PR and operations management with Franklin Templeton Investments and community based organisations in Hong Kong, Canada and mainland China. He majored in Political Science and Economics and minored in International Relations at the prestigious University of British Columbia after graduating from St. Paul's College, Hong Kong.
