The Canadian community was out en masse to receive a major business delegation with the support of the Canadian Consulate and The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
The hugely popular Mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre, come to Hong Kong as part of a north to south business mission to China with a huge crew of top Quebec business people.
Mr Coderre also met CY Leung. Mr Coderre enjoys a 72 percent approval rating, and so the two likely had something to talk about beyond business cooperation.
The Canadian Consul General Ian Burchett was supported by his colleagues. Also notable on the podium was the new Chairman of The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, Mr Lawrence Nutting, Vice President and Chief Distribution Officer of Manulife International. He assumed the post this week. Amelie Dionne-Charest spoke on behalf of the Montreal alumni community in her role as the President of The McGill Society of Hong Kong.
Jean Charest, former Canadian Cabinet Minister and Premier of Quebec was part of the delegation. Hong Kong notables included Dr William Yip of CanadaLand, real estate majordomo Nicholas Brooke, former Asia Pacific Manulife chief Victor Apps and a range of luminaries from the Hong Kong and Montreal business community.
He has run The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, founded The Lion Rock Institute and has over 25 years engagement in media, politics, policy and community engagement.
