On 10 May, 2017 the Austrian Trade Commission held a tasting of Austrian wines moderated by wine journalist, educator, and TV personality Debra Meiburg MW (Master of Wine) at HOFEX/ProWine Asia 2017. The tasting featured five selected Austrian wine producers, along with the overall exhibition that included seventeen other Austrian food and beverage specialty producers and distributors.
ProWine Asia is the newest addition to HOFEX, Asia’s leading food and hospitality tradeshow, participating for the first time at the exhibition hosted in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The five selected wine producers included names such as Leo Hillinger and Weingut Etz, whose wines were sampled by a large panel of Hong Kong-based and Asian wine distributors. Before the tasting began, Franz Roessler, the Austrian Trade Commissioner for Hong Kong, Macao and South China, took the chance to share a few words with the attendees. He said that while Austria is “not a big exporter of wine […] Austria’s wine industry is small but beautiful.”
With the high-quality wine products that were sampled throughout the tasting, there will hopefully be a growth in Asian distributors of Austrian wine within the near future.
