Loss of patient data in two hospitals

Bit of serious news – if you or someone you know has been served at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of The University of Hong Kong and Queen Mary Hospital (QMH) (2255 1366) or the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Fung Yiu King Hospital (FYKH) (2855 6111) there has been a breach of personal data. The Hospitals Authority and police have been alerted, but if you are worried please contact the PR department of the respective hospitals.

  • 815 patient data lost at QMH

A logbook containing data from the department was lost on 26 Aug containing the names, DOB and HKID of 815 patients who had been to QMH between Feb to Aug this year. The logbook was last used on 24 Aug. Reportedly, it was lost within hospital grounds from an employee-only area. Preliminary investigations have found no leads.

  • 28 elderly patient data lost from Tung Wah FYKH

The data breach from Tung Wah was a bit more ridiculous. A doctor at FYKH was offering Community Geriatric Assessment service at an elderly home on 10 Sept and left a folder in a car park near the home. The folder contained the names, HKID, age of 28 patients, and the prescription sheets of 24 of those patients. Investigations around the home have found not found the folder.
